Home Β· About us

Homelessness looks like a family in your town.

Not a stranger on a corner β€” a mom with two kids in the back of a car, a dad between jobs, a family one bad month away from losing everything. We exist so that when it happens here, they don't face it alone.

Our mission

Help homeless children and their families achieve sustainable independence.

That word β€” independence β€” is the whole point. A bed for the night matters, but it isn't the goal. The goal is a family with their own lease, their own paycheck, and their own front door. Everything we do is built backward from that.

Our Vision

A nation in which every family has a home, a livelihood, and the chance to build a better future together.

Our Model

Volunteer-based, congregation-supported, and focused on keeping families together throughout.

How we work

Shelter is the start, not the finish.

The Family Promise model surrounds a family with a whole community instead of handing them a cot and a curfew.

🏑

Families stay together

Most shelters split families up β€” men one place, women and children another. We don't. Keeping a family whole through a crisis is the single most protective thing we can do for the children in it.

β›ͺ

The community carries it

Local congregations, businesses, and volunteers provide meals, hospitality, and hands. That's what lets a small organization do this much with so little overhead.

🀝

Case management, not charity

Every family works with someone on a real plan β€” income, savings, childcare, housing. Progress is tracked, and setbacks get worked through rather than punished.

🌞

A day center to build from

Somewhere to shower, do laundry, use a computer, take a call from a landlord, and be a family β€” during the hours a shelter bed doesn't help you.

Our story

Built here, by neighbors.

  • The national model

    Family Promise nationwide

We're an affiliate of Family Promise, a national organization headquartered in Summit, New Jersey, working through local congregations across the country.

  • 2017

    The day center takes shape

Volunteers turned out for a paint-and-repair push to ready the space families use during the day.

  • 2018

    Our shelter opens

The facility opened its doors to families with children in the Bryan-College Station area.

  • Today

    Still volunteer-powered

Meals, overnight hosting, mentoring, and the day center all run on people who live right here.

πŸ“Œ For the board: this timeline is built from what's public. Give us the real milestones β€” founding year, families served, the moments that mattered β€” and we'll tell your story properly.

Our impact

Your numbers go here.

Nothing convinces a first-time donor or a grant reviewer faster than real numbers. These slots are built and waiting β€” send us the figures and they go live.

β€” Families served
β€” Nights of shelter
β€” Partner congregations
β€” Active volunteers

We deliberately left these blank rather than inventing figures β€” your board will know the real ones.

Our people

The team behind the promise.

A small staff, a working board, and a lot of volunteers.
